What better way to experience the West than to spend a day at the rodeo? The Laramie Jubilee Days and Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeos both offer a real taste of the cowboy way.
Rodeo weeks are no different than other weeks at our ranch, activity wise. We're still riding, fishing, and exploring the outdoors here. But guests with transportation have the opportunity to head into town to catch some of the excitement. The ranch does not provide transportation to or from any of the rodeo events.
Activities abound at the Laramie Jubilee Days. Visitors and locals alike enjoy professional men and women's steer roping, bull riding. There are also mountain man rendezvous events, cowboy poetry readings, art shows, parades, fireworks, and lots of great food.
Frontier Days is known as the "Daddy of them all" in this part of the country. It's an event not to be missed if you've never experienced a rodeo. The rodeo park is filled with attractions - an Indian Village (free), an Old West Town (free), an Old West Museum ($6), and an art show ($5-10). There is a midway with carnival rides as well. And then there is the rodeo which has limited seating and show each day at 1pm.
It always helps to have a strategy when approaching an event like this. The Burleigh family has found that an arrival in the morning works well with visits to the various villages and museums to start. We then head for the midway and purchase an unlimited ride arm band for $15 that entitles the wearer to rides from 11am to 6pm. We'll ride rides until just before rodeo time and then find some lunch and pack it with us into the rodeo arena. There is often some time to kill while the rodeo gets underway so we eat in our rodeo seats. After the rodeo, there is time for more rides and sightseeing before packing up to head home. You should leave the park by 5pm to be sure to have time to get to the ranch for dinner at 7pm.
Purchase your rodeo tickets ahead of time on the
internet or by phone using a credit card. Their ticket office is at
(800)227-6336 or
(307)778-7222 for our visitors from abroad. We highly
recommend seating area B which offers covered seating to give you a break from
the sun. Prices vary by seating area and date. The final rodeo at
the end of the week is the most popular so get your tickets early.
For those of you without kids, we recommend the concerts which take place at night. Don't try and bring kids unless they are practically adults because it is a very late night and a somewhat rambunctious crowd. Concert tickets and acts are best learned about on their web site below.
